American Literature Spring Term, 2014 The course requirements 1. Presence (10%) 2. Critical essays (30%, three critical essays) 3. Class summaries (60%, bi-weekly with each summary covering four periods of class) 4. PPT presentations (By turns for the whole academic year) 5. No final examinations for the whole academic year 6. All the written assignments should be typed and printed 7. Each PPT presentation should be done within 15minutes 8. Plagiarizing is to be punished with a cup of coffee in Prof.Fan’ office. 9. As few as possible mistakes in the use of words and of the grammar in all the assignments 10. All the assignments can be re-done to achieve a desired result till the last day of the course. The Nature of the Course 1. Every and each student is expected to be an explorer rather than a learner in and out of class. 2. There is no traditional byteaching, and no forced memory of the facts and texts. 3. The course is enriched by question-oriented instruction. 4. There is more library work and group work rather than a forced and lonely individual endeavor. 6. There are many stimulating and informative PPT presentations 7. Every and each student is expected to learn to say NO, rather than YES. 8. More books on American literature are needed to feel confident in class. How to Write a class summary?
