FiftyonestrainsoftheBacteroidesfragilisgroupwereisolatedfrom45fecalsamples.Classical
phenotypicidentificationshowedthat16isolateswereB.thetaiotaomicron,12B.uniformis,9B.
eggerthii,7B.vulgatus,3B.caccae,2Parabacteroidesdistasoniswith1identifiedB.ovatusand1
B.fragilis.The51strainsweretestedforsusceptibilityagainst16antimicrobialagentsandtheMICs
formetronidazoleweredetermined.Thetestsshowedthatimipenem,meropenemandchloram-
phenicolwerethemosteffectiveantibiotics(98%,98%and92.16%ofsusceptibility,respectively)
followedbyticarcillin/clavulanicacid,piperacillin/tazobactam,rifampin(88.24%susceptibility),
moxifloxacin86.27%andtigecycline84.31%.Ofloxacinandcefotaximeweretheleasteffectivean-
tibioticswith27.45%and0%ofactivityrespectively.Onlysixofthe51isolatedstrainswereresis-
tanttometronidazolewithMICs=64mg/L(1strain)and256mg/L(5strains).
