Wereportasimplemethodthatuses(i)emulsionshearingwithoxidationtomakecore–

shellparticles,and(ii)emulsionshearingwithsurface-tensiondrivenphasesegregationto

synthesizeparticleswithcomplexsurfacecompositionsandmorphologies.Subjecting

eutecticgallium–indium,aliquidmetal,toshearinanacidiccarrierfluidwesynthesized

smoothliquidcore–shellparticles6.4nmtoover10μmindiameter.Aggregatesofthese

liquidparticlescanbereconfiguredintolargerstructuresusingafocusedionbeam.Using

Field’smetalmeltswesynthesizedhomogeneousnanoparticlesandsolidmicroparticles

withdifferentsurfaceroughnessand/orcompositionthroughshearingandphase

separation.Thisextensionofdropletemulsiontechnique,SLICE,
