Unit 6 Touring around the City Part 1 Situational Dialogues 1. A group of tourists are cruising on the Huangpu River. The following dialogue is between the tourists and their local guide. Local guide: Friends, our cruise on the Huangpu River has begun. It will take us three hours to finish this cruise. Tourist: Cruising along the river is so exciting that we can enjoy the beautiful scenery. Local guide: I see. You seem to be deeply attracted by the scenery on both sides. If you are interested, I’d like to tell you something about the river. Tourist: That’s very nice of you. Come on. We’re eager to know something about the river. Local guide: The Huangpu River originates from Zhejiang Province. It is 80 kilometers long and 400 meters wide, running through the city of Shanghai. A sailing on the Huangpu River shows you a spectacular view of the scenery. Meanwhile, you can get a glimpse of China’s foreign trade with other countries. Look at the ships! They are used for delivering goods. Tourist: Wow, there’re so many ships. Shanghai is definitely an international harbor. Tourist: Before I came here, I had no idea of China’s trade with other countries. Now, from these ships, I see China’s growing foreign trade. Local guide: Here you can also take a look at the Bund. Tourist: It’s really a fantastic place. We’ll come again next year. 2. A group of tourists are on the bus which has just arrived at Yu Yuan Garden, located in the southern part of Shanghai. The following dialogue is between the tourists and their local guide. Local guide: Hello, everyone. Our bus has arrived at Yu Yuan Garden. Please get off the bus. We’ll spend two hours here.
