He has accumulated a wealth of experience on gastroesophageal reﬂ ux disease. He holds the view that gastroesophageal reﬂ ux disease can be caused by many pathogenic factors with various symptoms. He treats the disease with syndrome differentiation, and divides it into four types according to clinical observation, which are qi-obstruction, phlegm-qi accumulation, stagnation of liver and stomach heat, and qi- blood stagnation. He pays attention to the properties of herbs, and is good at making use of some opposite or complementary pairs, such as moistening (run) and drying (zao), ascending (sheng) and descending (jiang), dispersing (xuan) and dredging (tong). He also emphasize some special methods to take the medicine, for example, frequent sipping of one dose of herbal soup, boiling the soup into concentrated decoction, or taking the soup in decubitus, as well as recuperation in daily life.
