Abstract: Measurement and navigation based on optical imaging is the core technology in deep space
exploration and spacecraft autonomous navigation. However, Chinas related technical practice and mission
experience is limited by the chances of real mission, so the experience of Change-2s successfully flyby of
Asteroid Toutatis on Dec.13, 2012 and acquired image data are very valuable. In the actual mission, tracking
and control of Change-2 is not realized by auto-navigation of the spacecraft, however, the optical images
taken by Change-2 conceal rich information about Asteroid Toutatis, the spacecraft itself and the navigation
relationship therebetween. According to characteristics of this detection, combined with strategies during
flyby and imaging, we established a complete set of optical/radio fusion-based measurement model, carrying
out systematic studies of the detection data. This paper describes the optical/radio fusion-based measurement
model, and emphatically describes the important scientific and engineering application of the fusion model
in the detection of Asteroid Toutatis. Through the optical/radio fusion measurement, we successfully extract
important information on motion and navigation from a flash across of Change-2, acquire more accurate
perception of the physical characteristics of Toutatis; therefore, full
