Key points: the new vocabulary about problems , phrases and the important sentences. Difficult points: How to write about problems and aske for help. Difficult sentences in the letters. Teaching aids: A tape recorder Teaching methods: Reading, talking Teaching procedures: Step 1 Revision and checking 1)Have a free talk with the students about their problems. e.g. Do you have a problem? What’s your problem? What’s your biggest problem? How can you deal with it? 2) Ask the students the following questions about Reading Who are the letters from? Why do they write the letters? Step2.Leading-in If you have problems,what will you do to solve it? Will you go to your parents, friends or teachers? Maybe a youth worker is a good choice. Millie and Simon wrote to Sigmund Friend, a youth worker. Step3.Listening practice 1. Play the tape for the students and find out the answer: What’s Millie’s problem? (She has a lot of homework everyday.) 2. Listen again and check the answer with the whole class. Step4.Reading practice 1. Ask the students to read the letter carefully and find out the answers: What’s Millie’s hobby? Why does she have to do so much homework? How does she feel about that? What is she looking forward to? Why? 2. Work in groups and discuss the answers. 3. Read out the answers to check them. 4. Read the letter aloud. 5.
