Edward B. Fiske, the former Education Editor of The New York Times, is an internationally known education correspondent, editor, and lecturer who is widely regarded as one of the nation’s leading education writers and observers of education at all levels, from primary through higher education. He graduated from Wesleyan University and received a masters degree in theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and a masters degree in political science from Columbia University. Fiske is perhaps best known in the United States as the author of the best-selling Fiske Guide to Colleges (Sourcebooks) and numerous other books on college admissions. He writes regularly for UNESCO,USAID, the World Bank, the Asia Society, the Academy for Educational Development and other organizations on issues of education in developing countries. His most recent book, co-authored with Helen F. Ladd, is Elusive Equity: Education Reform in Post-Apartheid South Africa, that was published in 2004 by Brookings Institution Press. Fiske and Ladd previously authored When Schools Compete: A Cautionary Tale, a study of market-based school reform in New Zealand that was published in 2000. As a senior advisor to Widmeyer Communications, Fiske works with business leaders, academics, policymakers, researchers, and education organizations to shape, clarify, and articulate their agendas for improving American education. The articles he has authored for them have appeared in Education Week, the Los Angeles Times, the Wall Street Journal and other publications.
