Abstract The critical flux ofMBR in treating landfill leachate was determ ined using the flux-step method
in the expermi ent, and the influence of the velocity of gas liquid tw o phase flow at themembrane surface on crit-i
cal flux w as investigated1 The result indicated that the tw o phase flow velocity cou ld affect the critical flux dra-
matically1Wh ile the two phase flow velocity w as increased from 019 m /s to 18m /s, the critical flux would in-

crease from 2~ 4 L /( m # h) to 6~ 8 L /(m # h) 1 Their correlation presented linearly because of the coef-
ficient of 019971 The operation characteristics under sub- critical flux revealed that themembrane fouling could
be d ivided into wt o stages1 The first stage w as irreversible period, in wh ich the gel fouling was the dom inant
process and caused 72% of the total resistance1 The second stagew as reversible period, in wh ich the cake for-
mationw as the control factor and caused 6815 % of the total resistance1
