It is pointed out that reasonab le reserve cap ab ility is essen tial to secu re and stab le op eration of grid s. The m erits and dem erits of variou s m ethod s for gird reliab ility evaluation are analyzed, and the p robab ility m ethod wa s u sed to evaluate the grid ′s re serve cap ab ility. The reliab ility indice s obtained through the p robab ility m ethod can be u sed to in struct the grid op erators to p rep are and distribute the reserve cap ab ility. The app roach to study the reliab ility of the grid ′s reserve cap ab ility is p ropo sed, a s well as the re search direction.
