It is demonstrated that for non-bursty traffic ,FDL is a preferabIe choice than TWC whiIe TWC is a preferabIe one than FDL for non-bursty traffic to resoIve contention in opticaI packet switching networks. Numeric resuIts confirm that FFA is sufficient to obtain a reasonabIe packet Ioss probabiIity (PLP )for non-bursty traffic ,whiIe for bursty traffic ,FFTA ,performs much better given that the totaI number of FDLs and TWCs used eguaIs to those of FDLs used in FFA. With the increase of the average burst Iength ,the number of TWCs in FFTA wiII graduaIIy increase
