Gorur Department of Electrical Engineering, Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona ABSTRACT In this paper, a d y n a m i c m o d e l that c o m p u t e s the flashover voltages of p o l l u t e d insulators energized w i t h d c voltage is pre- sented. The salient f e a t u r e of this m o d e l is that it t a k e s into a c c o u n t the configuration of the insulator profile at e v e r y in- stant, which plays an important role in the flashover process of the d c polluted insulators. A number of practical insulator geometries have been s t u d i e d to demonstrate the model. The validity of the m o d e l was verified b y c o m p a r i n g the c o m p u t e d results w i t h the e x p e r i m e n t a l results of previous researchers and good correlation has been shown. 1.
