Abstract: In recent years, public interest in aged apartment remodeling has come to rise in Korea with the government ’s strict regulation to restrict apartment reconstruction. To meet the rising demands on apartment remodeling, we attempt in this paper to develop an analytical research and schematic application of extension types for domestic apartment building stocks. Our research adopts a typological approach, as Korean apartments have developed in a way that some prevalent standardized patterns are obvious in them. In order to provide an overview of the recent development of apartment remodeling in Korea, we firstly investigate the housing unit plans of apartments in Seoul and classify them into groups to extract the typical configurational patterns of them.
