Software Demonstration KPML The KOMETPenman Multilingual Linguistic Resource Development Environment John A Bateman GMDIPSI Dolivostr Darmstadt Germany email batemangmdde The purp ose of the system The kpml development environment is a system for developing and maintaining largescale sets of multilingual systemicfunctional linguistic descriptions as describ ed in Bateman et al a Bateman et al b Matthiessen et al and for using such resources for text generation More generally the intended purp oses of kpml are  to oer generation pro jects largescale general linguistic resources which are well tested and veried in their coverage p ossess standardized input and output sp ecications and are appropriate for practical generation  to oer generation pro jects a basic engine for using such resources for generation  to encourage the development of similarly structured resources for languages where they do not already exist  to provide optimal usersupp ort for undertaking such development and rening gen eral resources to sp ecic needs  to minimise the overhead and cost of providing texts in multiple languages  to encourage contrastive functional linguistic work  to raise awareness and acceptance of text generation as a useful endeavor The functionality of the system The internal comp onents of kpml and their functionality and communication channels are shown in the blo ck diagram in Figure The demonstration will attempt to show as many of these comp onents in action as is feasible in the time Kpml oers a comfortabl
