It’s hodgepodge time. Bob n’ Rob talk about crazy money deals and sports. This week’s show also features
regular segments such as Grammar Blues and Both Sides of The Pond.
Phrasal Verbs and Idioms
To seize up
1) If a machine or part of a machine stops moving or working correctly if it seizes up e.g the engine just seized
up only 3 weeks after I had bought the damn thing
2) If a part of your body becomes stiff and you cant move it if it seizes up eg: 1) After riding on the plane for
10 hours my legs started to seize up. 2) After riding my bicycle for 30 kilometres my legs started to seize up.
To seize on something (seize upon something is more formal)
= to suddenly show a lot of interest in something, particularly because one is able to use it to ones advantage
eg: The paparazzi immediately seized on the scandal involving the politician.
Idioms:
To gather dust = plans or recommendations that are forgotten or ignored eg the document was left to gather
dust as the authorities failed to deal with it.
Bonus idiom: To get (something) into gear = to start working or getting something to start working efficiently
and effectively eg Sorry Bob, I had a few beers last night and I cant seem to get my brain into gear this
morning.

Extra Idiom: “get your ass in gear” = this acts as an imperative and wants someone to hurry up and get
ready to go or do something quickly eg: Come on Harry, we’ve got to go. If you don’t get your ass in gear we’ll
miss the bloody train.
Joke
Bubba’s joke introduces listeners to some advanced vocabulary such as ‘to discipline someone’ and ’to lose
one’s temper’ as he tells us about 2 very naughty little boys.
