Phrasal Verbs and Idioms
to wear (something/someone) out
1) To ruin something because it has been used too much and/or is too old eg: Ive worn my jacket for so long
its completely worn out.
2) To become exhausted due to overwork eg: I was absolutely worn out after my 14 hour night shift.
3) To become mentally drained/exhausted due to someone’s actions eg: My kids are really hyperactive-
they’re always wearing me out.
Idioms: “time flies”
Time goes very quickly eg:
Gee, it only seems like yesterday that I just started my job. Boy, time flies doesn’t it?
Bonus Idiom: “to go down in history” Queen Victoria
To become famous by doing something or for being very special, unique or important eg:
Neil Armstrong went down in history as the first man to walk on the moon.
Extra Idiom: “to go down in the history books”
Similar in meaning to the bonus idiom eg:
The Holocaust went down in the history books as one of the worst cases of atrocities committed by humans
on other humans.
