Lesson 9 Me Me Media Lesson 9 Structure Analysis Key to Questions Photos Diagrams Additional Notes Background Information Contents 1. ipod: iPod is a popular brand of portable media players designed and marketed by Apple Inc and launched on October 23, 2001. As of 2008, the current product line-up includes the hard drive-based iPod Classic, the touch screen iPod Touch, the video-capable iPod Nano, the screenless iPod Shuffle and the iPhone. Former products include the compact iPod Mini and the spin-off iPod Photo (since re-integrated into the main iPod Classic line). iPod Classic models store media on an internal hard drive, while all other models use flash memory to enable their smaller size . As with many other digital music players, iPods, excluding the iPod Touch, can also serve as external data storage devices. Lesson 9 2. iRevolution: iRevolution here refers to the change to personalized media. Personalized Media, from a marketing and communications standpoint, is about reaching individuals with the right message at the right time, through the format and media that they have selected. It’s a big idea, and quite a departure from traditional media strategies and tactics that have relied on more interruptive marketing concepts. While marketing professionals on the advertising side are warming up to the concept of personalized media, public relations firms are doing so as well. Lesson 9 Lesson 9 Other personalized media tools, like RSS, blogs, podcasts and mobile (i.e. cellular phone handset) marketing are also allowing us to reach audiences in new ways. One of the keys in making these new tools work is to ensure that there is quality content. There must be a balance between the informative / entertaining hook of the content and the marketing message. Too much marketing message means that your audience will avoid it.
