Work out a topic outline for any 3 of them. Outline There are two commonly used types of outlines: the topic outline and the sentence outline. All entries in a topic outline consist of nouns and their modifiers, or their equivalents, i.e., gerund phrases or infinitive phrases, whereas the entries in a sentence outline are complete sentences. Exercise: Work in group and compare the two versions of outlines, trying to tell: Which is the topic outline and which is the sentence one? Read the text again, then group work and complete the sentence outline. This central idea is usually presented as a thesis statement in an essay’s introductory paragraph. A good thesis statement does two things. It tells readers an essay’s topic. It presents the writer’s attitude, opinion, idea, or point about that topic. Topic sentence Each of the supporting paragraphs should begin with a topic sentence that states the point to be detailed in that paragraph. Just as a thesis provides a focus for a
