Annual 100,000T Biodiesel Production Project Persistence Team College of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering, Zhejiang University 1. Introduction The 100,000t/a biodiesel project is held by China BlueChemical Co. Ltd. The project is the integration of the cultivation of 150,000t/a microalgae biomass and the production of 100,000t/a fine biodiesel. The project adopts microalgae as the potential source after comparison with other sources, which lays the foundation for the process design. The overall process consists of innovative source cultivation, mature oil extraction process and sharp synthesis technology. After the simulation of the process, energy integration and environment-protect approach are added. The allocation of cultivation base and manufactory is designed by PDMS and 3DMAX. Detailed process and clear allocation ensures the accuracy of investment and benefit analysis. Various kinds of products prove the economical strategy of the project. 2. Innovative material source At present, biodiesel from oil crops, waste cooking oil and animal fat cannot realistically satisfy even a small fraction of the existing demand for transport fuels. As demonstrated here, microalgae appear to be the most possible source of renewable biodiesel that can meet the global demand for transport fuels. Advantages of microalgae are explained as follows: First, oil content of more than 50% (dry wt) in microalgae is quite common. Some microalgae contains exceed 70% (dry wt) oil, which greatly exceeds the oil content of oil crops. Second, compared with oil crops, microalgae grow extremely rapidly. Microalgae double their biomass within 24h. In suitable growth condition, with sufficient sunshine and raw material, biomass doubling time is commonly as short as 3.5h. Third, the land area needed
