HUANGShan—shan1,LIChang—SUO,,YANGMing—liang,LIWen—binandWANGJi-an KeyLaboratoryofSoybeanBiology,Ministryof Education~SoybeanResearchInstitute,NortheastAgriculturalUniversity,Harbin 150030,P.R.China PlantProtectionInstitute,HeilongjiangAcademyofLandReclamationSciences,Harbin150038,P.R.China TostudytherelationshipsbetweenC4enzymeactivitiesandyield,C4enzymeactivities(phosphoenolpyruvatecarboxylase (PEPCase),NADP—malatedehydrogenase(NADP—MDH),NADP—malicenzyme(NADP-ME),andpyruvatephosphate dikinase(PPDK))indifferentorgansoftensoybeancultivarswithdifferentyieldsweremeasuredatdifferentgrowth stagesinChina.TheresultshowedthatfourenzymeactivitiesinC4pathwaywereobviouslydifferentamongcultivars, especiallyPPDKactivitywasnotdetectedintheleavesofDongnong1567andDongnong 1068andtheyoungleavesof Gongjiao9107—1andDongnong97-172,buttherewereweakactivitiesinpodcoats.TheorderofC4enzymeactivitiesis youngleavesold leavespod coats.ThecorrelationcoefficientsbetweenPEPCaseactivityandyieldandbetween NADP—MDH activityatbloomingstageandyieldwere0.6979and0.6565,respectively,andbothreachedthesignificant level(5%),andPEPCaseactivitykeptsignificantpositivecorrelationwithplantphotosyntheticrate.Therewasanegative correlationbetweenNADP-MEactivityandyield.andnocorrelationwasfoundbetweenPPDK activityandyield.
