Unit 8 orders and acknowledgements Objectives: Know the basic knowledge of orders. Know how to write an order and a S/C. Master typical sentences and expressions. 1. introduction: An order is a request for the supply of a specific quantity of goods. It usually results from the buyers’ acceptance of a firm offer made by the sellers or results from the sellers’ acceptance of a counter-offer made by the buyers. The normal practice is that buyers fill in a company’s printed order form, normally called “purchasing order”. Alternatively, the buyers compose a letter of order which includes full and clear essential details such as quality, quantities, prices, packing, shipment, terms of payment, etc. The seller can either fully accept the order, or make counter offers, or reject the order. However, when an order is placed by a buyer in reply to a seller’s firm offer within its validity, the seller is obliged to supply the goods. Such an order becomes a contract in effect. Once an order is accepted, it is deemed as a contract between the seller and the buyer.
