Unit 8 orders and acknowledgements Objectives: Know the basic knowledge of orders. Know how to write an order and a S/C. Master typical sentences and expressions. 1. introduction: An order is a request for the supply of a specific quantity of goods. It usually results from the buyers’ acceptance of a firm offer made by the sellers or results from the sellers’ acceptance of a counter-offer made by the buyers. The normal practice is that buyers fill in a company’s printed order form, normally called “purchasing order”. Alternatively, the buyers compose a letter of order which includes full and clear essential details such as quality, quantities, prices, packing, shipment, terms of payment, etc. The seller can either fully accept the order, or make counter offers, or reject the order. However, when an order is placed by a buyer in reply to a seller’s firm offer within its validity, the seller is obliged to supply the goods. Such an order becomes a contract in effect. Once an order is accepted, it is deemed as a contract between the seller and the buyer. Both parties should strictly fulfill their obligations. 2. how to write an order. express the buyer’s intention to place an order. describe what is being ordered in great detail. show willingness to further cooperation. 3. how to reply an order. express appreciation for the order received. assure the buyers that the goods can be supplied in compliance with their request. confirm the order require countersignature. show willingness to future dealings. 4.Typical sentences and expressions ——write an order 2) ending If this first order proves satisfactory, substantial business will follow.
