Development St at us and Tendency of Driving Axle Housing
of Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles

Abstract: The st ruct ures of driving axle housing of medium and heavy commercial vehicles are
reviewed, and t he four main manufacturing met hods of driving axle housing, such as t he casting,
punch and welding, steelpipe expansion and hydrobulging formation are introduced. The four
technologies, bearing force and cost were analyzed and compared. the specific applicat ions and
advantages of cast ing and punch and welding whole axle housing are analized and compared wit h its
materials and bearing force. According to t he practical product ion condit ions in FAW Foundry Co.
Ltd. , some competed ways and procedures are proposed.
