NJIT owes its origins to a predecessor institution, Newark Technical School, founded in 1881. After 125 years’ development, NJIT has ranked itself among the top engineering and mechanical universities in the U.S. and top 500 universities in the world. Today, the university has six schools including Newark College of Engineering founded in 1919, New Jersey School of Architecture in 1973, College of Science and Liberal Arts in 1982, School of Management in 1988, Albert Dorman Honors College in 1993, named after its alumnus-noted Architect and civil engineer, and College of Computing Sciences in 2001. NJIT is a multi-disciplinary university with a strength in engineering and technology. It offers PhD programs in 19 professional areas, master’s programs in 39 specialties, and 34 baccalaureate degree programs. The students enrolled in 2004-2005 have reached more than 8,200, about one-third of which are enrolled in master’s and doctoral programs. NJIT has boasted itself in strong research capacities for environmental engineering and science, advanced manufacturing, and microelectronics worldwide. Its annual research expenditures are now approximately $75 million, ranking itself among Top American Research Universities in an annual study by The Center at the University of Florida, as well as the fastest growing research program in the nation for the period from 1990-2000. The Master of Science in Engineering Management to be launched in China is thus a joint effort between its leading college--Newark College of Engineering and the Economics Management School of Beijing University of Technology. This program will be a copy of NJIT module, recruiting both university graduates and entrepreneurs
