The film is based on Keseys novel of the same name, and it was directed by Milos Forman. It seems that the film is a reference of the?Soviet Union. However, it actually exposes the darkness of the American society. The mental hospital, which binds up humanity as well as freedom, is the particular epitome of American sickness and depression. The film is not really about insanity as much as it is about the triumph of the human spirit. It praises those heroes who fight alone for their liberation of individuality but failed for no right way to liberation, and eventually?engulfed by?the merciless society. Plot This film is the story of Randle Patrick McMurphy, a man who has been sentenced to prison for statutory rape of a 15-year-old girl in 1963 Oregon. He plays the fool as he hopes to rid of hard labor and serve his sentence in a more relaxing environment. Therefore McMurphy, a rebellious and comical person, is sent to a mental hospital. What is challenging for McMurphy is the fact that the hospital is run by Nurse Ratched, who is determined to maintain absolute control over the hospital. McMurphy regards himself immediately as the leader among his fellow patients, consisting of Billy Bibbit, Charlie Cheswick, Martini and so on. Before long, McMurphy gets tired of the daily routine of these mens generally sad and boring lives. One day, he breaks into the nurse’s office to turn down the microphone volume but is refused.
