KUNZLE1 ABSTRACT : The space-time (evolution space) and possible phase sjjace descriptions of systems of n structureless point, parti- cles are carefully discussed in the framework of instan- taneous action-at-a-distance theory (predictive mechanics) . It is shown how to construct Poincaré invariant interac- tion laws and give them an invariant Hamiltonian formu- lation. An earlier proposed supplementary condition on the Hamiltonian structure , requiring that all position coordinates of the particles have commuting Poisson brackets in a well-defined sense is shov/n to be applicable also to systems of more than two particles . Moreover , it is proved that this condition is not incompatible with an interaction law invariant under particle permutations .
