Chapter 1 Basic Requirements for Writing Types of English Essays A narration is an account of an event or a series of events. Description is to paint a picture in words of a person, place, object, or scene. Exposition means explaining or supply knowledge or ideas. Argumentation is to convince other people to agree to and approve the writer’s point of view, even persuade them to change their mind or behavior by offering logical proofs in a reasonable way. The problems in getting to the theater, the terrible conditions of the theater itself, and the disturbing behavior of some moviegoers are all reasons why I don’t want to go there. (First of all, just getting to the theater presents difficulties. It takes about a thirty-minute drive to the theater down the crowed streets. And then there are the long lines waiting for you to buy a ticket for a popular movie.) (Once entered, you are confronted with the problems of the theater itself.
