Most of the students will have a good understanding of the text by finishing different tasks.

Steps Activities Purposes Pre-reading i.ask students some questions
what food do you like best?
Can you name some popular Western and Chinese food?
How to express your hospitality? How will you respond to hospitality? Arouse students’ interest in the text and introduce different dining customs to lead in the text. While-reading i.Scan the text and find the topic sentence in the text and also write a heading for each paragraph.
ii.Read the text quickly and answer the following questions:
How many types of food are introduced in the text?
Apart from Chinatown, what are the other examples of ethnic sections?
Which American state is well-known for Mexican food?
When did health food become popular?
What kind of people are keen on health food?
What kind of food is considered unhealthy?
What kind of restaurants are called fast food restaurants?
What examples of fast food restaurants are given in the text?
Why is dinner with family and friends becoming popular?
iii. After having a better understanding of the text, ask students to finish exercise C2 on page 3, to kown some key words in the text. Train students’ reading comprehension.
