As we all know, food has always been very important in China throughout history. In China, people contend that food is much better than medicine in building up ones health. It (the food) is a culture that learned long ago ---the importance of eating for survival. Confucius described that enjoyment of food as one of the beautiful and gentle things which contribute to the peace and harmony of society. And the basic one is that food gives us energy and makes us away from hunger. It is said that we can live only 14 days without food. Without food, we can do nothing, and we may even lose ourselves. In order to survive, we may lose the morality, we may fight with each other just for food and what’s worse, we may eat our partners. While the food is so important, why are we scared of food now? Introduction of food safety and quality Food safety implies absence or acceptable and safe levels of contaminants, adulterants, naturally occurring toxins or any other substance that may make food injurious to health on an acute or chronic basis. Then, I’d like to introduce the importance of the food safety. Why food safety is necessary? I have three points. Here are just 5 of Chinas food safety problems : 1、Antifreeze Vinegar 2、Pork That Glows Blue 3、Exploding Watermelons 4、Tainted Steamed Buns 5、Pork Sold as Beef Antifreeze Vinegar Tainted vinegar is one of the most serious food crises to hit China recently. Eleven people have died and nearly 150 have been sickened by vinegar stored in barrels that, allegedly, previously contained antifreeze. Investigators are still determining whether manufacturers were aware that antifreeze had been present in the barrels . Pork That Glows Blue Yes, that’s right, blue. Uncooked pork was found glowing in the dark due to a phosphorescent bacteria. An unsuspecting woman bought the pork in a Shanghai market only to find it radiating later that night on her kitchen table (sidenote: maybe its not a good idea to leave uncooked pork on
