HIV AIDS Acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS获得性免疫功能丧失综合症) is a disease of the human immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV人类免疫缺陷病毒). Listening Material on HIV and AIDS 2.The Red ribbon(丝带) is a symbol for solidarity (团结)with HIV-positive people and those living with AIDS. 3.Ways in which one can be infected with HIV: HIV is spread through -sexual contact, -exposure to infected body fluids (such as blood), -Mother-to-child transmission (pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding ) Ways in which one cannot be infected with HIV: ? Hugging, kissing or holding hands. ? Sharing a bath. ? From a swimming pool. ? From a toilet seat. ? Sharing cutlery(刀叉) or drinks with someone. ? By someone spitting on you. 4. Prevention Health organizations promoting safe sex (condom) and needle-exchange programmes in attempts to slow the spread of the virus. III. First-reading Task Go through the text and do I and II on page 68. Time limit: 10 min. IV. Second-reading task Read the text again. Make a division of the text, and sum up the main idea of each part. Part IV(para.8) This part -mentions the specific date that marked the end of David’s life Part IV(para.8) -describes the writer’s feelings towards David’s death -indicates how the writer keeps his friend’s memory alive V.
