The fifth region is characterized by high net-to-gross and deep burial (?2400 to ?2500 m subsea elevation) (Fig. 11H).The region has few Monteith A penetrations, no stand-alone production, and few co-mingled wells. This suggests that the control on production in this region is the reservoir depth and quality has been degraded by compaction and cementation and/or mechanical properties unsuitable for hydraulic fracture stimulation (Shanley, 2004). This deep high net-to-gross region may be productive if sweets spots related to small structures and fractures, or favourable diagenetic properties can be identified,although these seem unlikely.

The two regions most suitable geologically for further exploration are the high net-to-gross Foothills and Plains. The Foothills are advantageous due to the amalgamated channel-belt architecture and abundance of natural fractures, which has resulted in the highest initial production rates of any region(Fig. 11H). Vertical, deviated, and horizontal wells have all been successful in this region, which suggests vertical wells may be adequate to access the natural fracture networks and localized higher matrix permeability. However, detailed mapping and drilling in a structured setting requires 3-D seismic, and wells in the environmentally sensitive Foothills region may require additional roads and permits, all of which increase project complexity and costs.
