I do feel ashamed to acknowledge that this is the very first Chaplin’s film I have ever seen not including numerous shorts I watched during my childhood . It is also the first Buster Keaton film for me including his numerous shorts . I know, it is a crime, I am so desperate to find great comedies from the golden age. However, Keaton is Charles’ sidekick in the film, plus his screen time is rather limited, but still, my heart thumped hard when the two legends were sharing scenes together. Calvero was a great comedy actor, he was very poor,and now he has reduced to a drunk. One day, he drunk back to his apartment, found the girl Thereza Ambrose , who lived next him lying in bed, she has opened the gas and attempted to suicide. Ambrose was a ballet dancer, because she has suffered from the rheumatism that she couldnt dance again, so she had the idea of the suicide. Calvero took care of her, and reassure her suicidal thoughts with his own comic talent .Later, the doctors diagnosis proofed that her crus is only mental paralysis. Six months later, Ambrose successfully stood up again, and played the major role in a ballet ,and falled in love with a composer.The two young people decided to get married. Calvero could do nothing but blessed Ambrose, and beared alone from the heart pain. Chaplin, I admire and respect a set of music, dance, screenwriter, director, performers, stage scheduling, producers as one of the all-around artist, even in the ideologically extraordinary height, and also has aso brave and the domineering gas field. Courage to challenge the courage to explain his own life,and the courage to unfair world say, the courage of the forces of evil provocation and irony with great courage he had seen the dark side, laughing with tears of comedy so that people will never forget the mustache m
