-IZE (fr. GK-ize):This -ize suffix, one of the few verb-forming suffixes in English, has enjoyed greatest favour during the last twenty years or so. It is most often attached to adjectives and nouns of words borrowed from Greek, Latin and French. Examples are: symbolize from Greek, civilize from Latin, and pasteurize([p?st?raiz] vt. 用巴氏法灭菌)from French. It is also added to English nouns and adjectives, such as anglicize(.
