Many people believe that attending a school abroad has many distinct advantages. Students can acquire more advanced knowledge from excellent professors and with first-rate facilities. And years of life and study abroad can help them master a foreign language. More important, without parents’ taking care, the youngsters have to rely on themselves. This can develop their independence and interpersonal skills. However, some education experts are strongly against sending high school students abroad. Apart from the heavy economic burden on the family, their biggest concern is that once immersed in the western culture, the immature teenagers will follow western styles blindly and consequently lose their identity and even reject Chinese culture. Besides, many students fell extremely lonely and miserable in completely strange background and social customs. This might affect their studies. In my opinion, whether to pursue education abroad depends on the student himself. If domestic education can’t meet the need of a top and capable student, it is quite helpful for him to experience the western culture so that he can absorb its essence to broaden his outlook and fully develop his potentials. On the contrary, if a student can’t do well even in China, parents’ expectation of his miraculous academic achievement abroad will definitely fail.
