AMEDD Officer Development and Career Management

Objectives Workshop participants will be able to: 1) Identify the five phases of officer development IAW DA PAM 600-4 2) Define competencies and actions common to all 71 series for current operations 3) Discuss competencies and actions unique to 71E AOC for current operations 4) Identify civilian and military educational opportunities offered over the next 3 years 5) Create a self action plan for career development in assignments and education IAW DA PAM 600-4 Life Cycle Model Officer Development DA PAM 600-4, Chapter 10, Medical Service Corps Medical Service Corps Health Sciences (MFA 71, 72, 73 and AOCs 67E, 67F, and 67G) Officership basics Leader Development Career Management Immaterial positions Life cycle model Officership Basics Tactical and technical proficiency (focus of company grade years) Physically fit Highest ethical and moral character Effective statesman, communicator, and leader Capable of building teams Leader Development Career Management Education (military and civilian) Operational assignments (diversify using TDA/TOE, CONUS/OCONUS, Ldr/Staff/Cmd, Clin/Non-Clin/Imm, MEDDAC/MEDCEN, FORSCOM/TRADOC, etc) Self-development (military, civilian, AMEDD, non-AMEDD) Commitment to lifelong learning National certification (MT/CLS); add to ORB Immaterial Positions Labeled as 67B Exist at field grade levels (MAJ and above) Any 71 series officer can compete for 67B assignment Examples Five Phases of Professional Development Each phase has its own particular job assignments and schooling appropriate to each phase Phase 1 - LT Phase 2 - CPT Phase 3 - MAJ Phase 4 - LTC Phase 5 - COL Life Cycle Model, MSC Life Cycle Model, 71E Officer Development Army Medical Department Officer Development and Career Management SAFMLS 2008 Colonel William Boisvert Department of the Army Pamphlet 600–4 Personnel–General Army Medical Department Officer Development and Career Management Headquarters Department of the Army Washington, DC 27 June 2007 U
