University of Science Technology Beijing, Beijing 100083, China) 【Abstract】In view of the popularity of AutoCAD systems in engineering applications and its lack of capability in spatial data management, AutoCAD-based Geographic Information System(GIS) techniques are developed by analyzing the secondary development capacity of AutoCAD systems. A GIS oriented toward engineering applications is established to run on the AutoCAD platform to integrate the GIS capability of spatial data management into the system of AutoCAD and expand the capability of single AutoCAD systems or single GIS’s. The reliability and effectiveness of the AutoCAD-based GIS techniques are verified by real engineering data. It shows that the AutoCAD-based GIS techniques have broad applicability and practical values for the integration of GIS spatial data management capabilities with AutoCAD engineering design platforms. 【Key words】AutoCAD system; Geographic Information System (GIS); space element; database; system integration 1 .Overview The AutoCAD system has been widely applied in various engineering, not only widely used in engineering design, and has been applied in production management.
