An Analysis of English Learning of Mr. Xu Guozhang in Middle School   Abstract:Mr. Xu Guozhang was a famous English educationist, and he achieved a lot in English teaching and research. His achievement must have a close relationship with the solid foudation which he had built in his Middle School. In the modern society, many students learn English just because they want to find a way to succeed quickly, and then their learning is equal to a lot of examinations sometimes. At last they may find that the results can be the opposite. Under the circumstance of curriculum reform, analysing the English learning of Mr. Xu Guozhang when he was in Middle School is profitable to the English learning of the mordern Middle School. This paper is carried out on the basis of consulting the related documents about Mr. Xu English learning in his Middle School and gets some inspiration.   Key words:Mr. Xu Guozhang; English learning; Middle School; Inspiration   1. Introduction   Mr. Xu Guozhang had a series of articles and speeches on English education and they posed great signifcance on English teaching in China. These achievement can not be detached from his English learning in Middle School.   This paper is aimed at tracing back to English learning of Mr. Xu Guozhang and learn from him. Also after a brief analysis of Mr. Xu’s Middle School, there are some inspiration to modern English teaching.   This paper totally has five parts including the conclusion. In the first part, it shows curricula and teaching methods in the Middle School of Mr. Xu. In the second part, it tells one of his good teachers called Mr. Wu Xianshu. In the third part, it illustrates Mr. Wu’s own reading method. When it comes to the forth part, there are some inspiration such as creating English environment in school, not jump to success, using effective evaluation and implementing reading of original English works.
