I.Pre-reading Activities Listening of Part One: As you listen to Part One of the tape, try to figure out what the words blurk and blurking mean.

Part one: ParaIntroduction to the Text: The problem facing the American education system lies not so much in our institutions as in our attitudes towards thinking.
Part two: Para 4-10 Body of the Text: The author supplies evidences to support his argument.
Part three: Para 11-12 Conclusion: The solution to the problems is to revive interest in the art of thinking.
Main idea:
The author proposes a serious problem in American education system and points out disadvantages of negative attitude towards thinking. Then provide solutions to revive interest in the art of thinking.
