Module 4 Unit 3 A Taste of English Humor Period 2 Reading 一、 (1)Teaching nalysis This unit aims “English humor” as the topic (NSEC BOOK 4, Unit 3), describing in details what “nonverbal humor” is and introducing the life and work of Charlie Chaplin as well as his excellent performance in his silent films so as to better understand the connotation(内涵) of humor. Through listening, speaking, reading, writing and acting, students can understand the meaning and importance of “humor” in their daily life as well as stimulate their learning interest of humor. This lesson focuses on reading. The reading tells us that in Britain and America people were feeling miserable because of the bad economic situation. Charlie Chaplin understood their problems. His character “the little tramp” was poor and homeless, but everybody loved him for his kind heart and the way he dealt with his difficult situation. Charlie Chaplin made people laugh at some of these terrible situations like being without food or money and eating leather shoes in The Gold Rush. He wrote and directed his own films and received an Oscars for his outstanding work. (2)Teaching Important and Difficult Points Important points 1. To help the students learn to get information, analyze the information and understand the information from the text. 2. To improve students’ skimming, scanning, and detailed reading skills. 3. To help the students divide the text into several parts according to the meaning of the passage. Difficult points 1. How to stimulate the students’ enthusiasm to express their ideas. 2.
