Women and Female status have been been the a heat-debated subject over thousands of years. Therefore, women’s social role in ancient Greece is worthwhile to be looked deep into. This essay mainly research into the women’s social role, from the angle of Greek Mythology. From the evolvement of Greek society, it’s occurred to us that women’s role changes from a domination to subordinate to men, from manipulating to being manipulated, and from supreme role to men’s property. To put it briefly, the transitional process of women’s role go through three stages in Greek Mythology. In the early description, women stood in the center of the Greek society as well as in the divinity as supreme goddesses under the matriarchy. In the Heroic Age, paternity decrease women’s role. And later they declined to men’s “slave” in the private property. The discussion about women’s role in Greek Mythology has meaning to the recognition of women’s social value in the modern world.
