the translator sends out his communicative intention (I2) as a target-language sender (TL (S)), here he must share the mutual manifestness of the cognitive environment with his target-language receiver (TL (R)), and at the same time, yielding adequate contextual effects without putting the receiver’s unnecessary processing efforts. And the whole translating is a process of searching for optimal relevance. I had expected that relevance theory would help me to formulate a general theory of translation. However, within a year it became increasingly clear that relevance theory alone is adequate – there seems to be no need for a distinct translation theory. Relevance Theory may be seen as an attempt to work out in detail one of Grice’s central claims that an essential feature of most human communication, both verbal and non-verbal, is the expression and recognition of intentions. (Sperber and Wilson, 2004) Relevance Theory bases itself on the research fruits of cognition, psychology and behavioral science for the purpose of building a comparatively concrete cognitive model. Sperber and Wilson divide the speaker’s intention into two sub-categories: informative intention and communicative intention and claim that “meaning” is speaker’s “communicative intention”. Sperber and Wilson view context as a psychological construct. context in Relevance Theory is a fluid notion, which is no longer seen as fixed in advance of the utterance, but is constructed as part of the dynamic comprehension process. Roger T. Bell’s Information Processing Oriented Model Translation: a special kind of information processing. Human information processing contains three basic systems: sensory system, short-term memory, and long term-memory.
