Abstract Syringa oblate Lindl leaves is an ideal broad-spectrum antimicrobial drugs.The total phenolic acid compounds as the material basis of pharmacodynamic action, but the extraction rate is too low, in order to increase the extraction rate of total phenolics, the total phenolics of clove leaf ethanol extraction process was optimized by response surface methodology.Response surface methodology (RSM), based on a three level, four variable Box-Behnken design (BBD), was employed to obtain the best possible combination of ethanol concentration (A:20-40%), extraction temperature (B: 80–100 ?C), extraction time (C: 90–110 min), and water to the raw material ratio (D: 20–30) for maximum total phenolic acids extraction. The experimental data obtained were fitted to a second-order polynomial equation using multiple regression analysis and also analyzed by appropriate statistical methods (ANOVA). The optimum extraction conditions were as follows: ethanol concentration of 44%, extraction time of 96 min, extraction temperature of 90 ?C, and the ratio of water to raw material of 25.2.
