Text Projects for Nuclear Power in China The development of infrastructure is of primary importance to present-day China whose gross national industrial and agriculture output value has been targeted for a fourfold increase by the turn of this century. Among the fundamental facilities to be constructed power plants should be given priority because a speedy development of electric power is prerequisite for achieving this ambitious goal of the nation. 1. Broad Prospects for Further Development Though great progress has been made in electricity generation in the past 42 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Power supply is still far from sufficient to meet national needs. The average annual consumption of electricity is only 300-odd Kwh per capita; compared with economically advanced countries, we still have a long way to go. As the reform of the economic structure proceeds and goes in depth, China’s national economy will grow at great speed and living standard will be further improved. The average annual consumption of electricity is expected to top 1000 KWh per capita by 2000. The task of boosting electricity generation is, therefore, rather arduous. China is a country with a vast territory. Its conventional energy resources and hydroelectric r
