Introducton With the rapid development of the society, intercultural communication has become an important part of modern communication, but in cross-cultural communication, as language communication using their own language and cultural interpretation of rules and judgment of others, it often cause misunderstanding, embarrassment and discomfort, resulting in communication failure. This paper aims to study the difference of Chinese and Western taboos, from the difference aspects of appellation, privacy, politics to further explore the taboo, to understand the differences between Chinese and Western culture, so as to have a better intercultura communication, avoid taboos of cross-cultural communicative failure caused by. II. The definition of taboo Taboo is common among the peoples of the world as a cultural phenomenon,and it regulate the peoples behavior and social communication. Taboo is a kind of form or means of language communication, also exist in every language and culture, which belongs to the cultural category, from individual life to social life, but because of differences in historical development, countries with different social systems and values, different cultures to what is taboo in certain context is not entirely consistent.
