Superior sagittal sinus Plate 1.2 In this section (looking down), the following protective brain coverings are seen: scalp (2), periosteum (10), parietal bone (9), and dura mater (1). A dural fold, the falx cerebri (5), is seen in the interhemispheric fissure separating the two cerebral hemispheres. Within the falx cerebri is a dural venous sinus, the superior sagittal sinus (6, 11). The section is cut through the superior frontal gyrus (3) and the superior parietal lobule (7). Two gyri within the frontal lobe are seen: the superior frontal gyrus (15) and the precentral gyrus (4, 13). The superior frontal sulcus (14) delineates the boundary of the superior frontal gyrus.
