* * * * * * * * 4 * 4 * 4 * 4 * 4 * Cold shrink requires NO HEAT, FLAMES, OR TORCH----requires NO SPECIAL TRAINING------and in most products DOES NOT REQUIRE ADHESIVES to seal. These statements are obviously directed at heat shrinkable products (i.e. Raychem) If needed, understand the following information if a customer asks or says they have used cold shrink and needed adhesiveto seal. Note: The exception to no adhesives is the 5620K series indoor termination kits. We supply a tube of glue to seal the base of the termination where the ground strap exits. This will not be needed with QTIII. We also supply 2228 mastic in the SJ rejacketing kits because the cold shrink must fit over the large splice body and seal on the cable. In some cases this range is too great for the tube to shrink down enough. * Whether the cold shrink product is a termination or tubular product, cold shrink provides a live seal so it is always trying to get back to it抯 original size, providing a tight seal and interface. This is most important in medium voltage cable accessories (splices and terminations) as a tight, positive interface is necessary for long term reliability. It is important for our low voltage tubing (8420 series) for an effective moisture seal. Use the EPDM tube you installed and try to lift the tube away from the cable.
