This figure shows the technological trend for IGBT application market. This time we are concentrate the power supply market. Most important point of this application is high efficiency. The new topology which realizes high efficiency is being researched. The development of Fuji Electric is the most suitable for that new system. Today UPS is composed of the converter-inverter system which used 2 level inverter circuit. This systems efficiency is 93%. This figure shows the UPS trend. Increasing the efficiency and increasing the frequency to achieved the High efficiency and compact UPS. These requests are realized by using 3 level Inverter Technology. 3 level inverter achieved to use the small size output filter. These figures show the output filter voltage. This is the 2 level Inverter. This is the 3 level Inverter. Filter voltage is smaller and higher frequency elements of 3 level than that of 2 level Inverter. 2 level inverter voltage is only +E and –E stage, So the voltage displacement and harmonic waveform are larger. Therefore it need a big filter. Beside 3 level inverter voltage has mid point potential, so the voltage displacement and harmonic wave are small.
