Intro to CNC Mill Operation:Basics to going from concept to partsCreating a DXF File in SolidWorksOpen SolidWorksCreate a new part documentOpen a new sketchSketch the profile of your partIf you’re making a mold, only sketch the part profileFor a part cutout (polypropylene) you need to also sketch offset lines for the tool path (offset for tool diameter)Creating a DXF File in SolidWorksRed areas are where the mill will cut:Sketch for moldSketch for cutoutNote: dimensioning removed for clarityCreating a DXF File in SolidWorksOnce you are done sketching click “Exit Sketch”Click “Save As” and select Dxf as the file type, name the file and click “Save”A dialog box will open on the left, ignore the options, and click the green check markLastly, a window will pop up with a preview of the DXF sketch, click “Save”Congratulations, you’ve created a DXFCreating G-code from a DXF in CamBamFirst open your newly created DXF file in CamBamMultiple entities will need to be joined into one entity (i.e. lines and arcs)Select all bodies in the drawingOpen the “Edit” menu and select “Join”In the window that opens enter a value for join tolerance, 1 or 0.1 works fine, and select “OK”Creating G-code from a DXF in CamBamCreating G-code from a DXF in CamBamNext you want to create pockets for the mill to cut outGenerally, you can create all of them at once, and CamBam does a good job at knowing where you want to cutFor this example, assuming want everything is the same depth, select all bodies in the drawingOpen the “Machining” menu, and select “Pocket”Creating G-code from a DXF in CamBamCreating G-code from a DXF in CamBamA new box will appear in the lower lefthand sideFirst you need to adjust the Cutting Depth Parameters: enter values for “Depth Increment” and “Target Depth,” the rest should be okay as isNext you will want to input “Cut Feedrate” and “Plunge ” values, followed by “Spindle Speed” and lastly “Tool Diameter”Everything else should be left alone until you are more experienced w
