SUBJECT: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: FY-2011 STUDY OF THE U.S. INSTITUTE ON U.S. FOREIGN POLICY FOR EAST ASIAN STUDENT LEADERS Summary: The Study of the United States Branch (ECA/A/E/USS) is pleased to invite candidate nominations from posts for a FY-2011 Study of the United States Institute on U.S. Foreign Policy for East Asian Student Leaders from China, Japan, and Korea.? Please note that Study of the U.S. Institutes are not considered Fulbright programs.? The Institute will take place over the course of five weeks in August and September of 2011; exact dates will be announced at a later time.? The deadline for candidate nominations to be received in ECA/A/E/USS is COB February 11, 2011.? Please note action request in para 6.? End summary. 1. Overview The Study of the U.S. Branch has sponsored Student Leader Institutes since 2003.? The Study of the U.S. Institute (SUSI) on U.S. Foreign Policy for East Asian Student Leaders was created in FY10 and was hosted by the U.S.-China Education Trust in Washington, D.C.? The 2010 SUSI for East Asian Student Leaders was very successful. 2. Program Description: The purpose of the institute is to provide a group of 20 East Asian undergraduate leaders with a deeper understanding of U.S. Foreign Policy, while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills.? The institute will consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations and lectures.? The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel to other parts of the United States, local site visits, and volunteer opportunities. The institute will include an academic residency component of approximately four weeks and a domestic travel component of approximately one week. The Study of the U.S. Institute on U.S. Foreign Policy for East Asian Student Leaders will introduce participants to U.S. foreign policy, briefly covering the history of U.S. foreign policy and theories of foreig
