She reminded me of sunbursts and rainbows, with her orange fur and luminous green eyes. I thought she was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen. I kissed the top of the kittens head and she mewled softly. My heart was bursting with love for her already. Ill take good care of her, I said, grinning with joy. Ill love her always. I called her Cookie. Susan was my next-door neighbor and my best friend. She was an only child and she always got anything she ever wanted. As soon as she saw my kitten, she wanted one too. She laughed at Cookies name, saying it was a silly name for a cat. A few days later she showed up at my door holding a fluffy white Persian kitten that she, of course, had named Fluffy. I stared at the small white kitten in her arms, wondering how she could possibly think that this plain white creature could compare with the magnificent colors of Cookie. Half the white cats in the world are named Fluffy, I said sarcastically, recalling how she had laughed at Cookies name. The other half are named Snowball. You must have had a hard time choosing between the two names. Susan sniffed. Fluffy has a pedigree. Daddy said your kitten is a plain old alley cat.
