Angela BacaSanta Clara Potter By Aynjil Baca My Grandma Grandmas Life Her Family Angela Baca My Grandma’s Pottery The End Grandma’s Life My Grandma, Angela, has been making pottery for thirty years. She started making pottery when she was forty-two. Grandma is the youngest daughter of Severa and Cleto Tafoya. Her mother, Severa, was a famous potter. She was given an award from the French Government for her beautiful pottery. In 1949 my Grandma married my Grandpa, Jose A. Baca. Four of her children are making pottery. This is one of my Grandma’s melon bowls. Her Family My Grandma comes from a family of six sisters and one brother. All of her sisters make pottery and her brother is a painter. When my Grandma was little she used to help her mother polish and fire their pottery. She and her sisters used to go to the Pueblo and sell their mother’s pottery. I am proud to be her Granddaughter. I am starting to make pottery too. I am learning from my dad, Alvin, my grandma’s son. Angela Baca Angela is a famous potter from Santa Clara Pueblo. She is known for her melon bowl pottery. She makes them both red and black. She’s won all kinds of awards for her pottery. She has pottery in the Heard Museum and in the Smithsonian Museum. My Grandma sells her pottery in the Pueblo. She also sells her pottery at Santa Fe Indian Market and at Eight Northern Pueblo’s Arts and Crafts Shows. My Grandma’s Pottery This is a picture of Grandma holding a finished melon bowl.
